York House/York St. School Updates & Background

A very special discussion: Possible ideas for re-using York House

By January 31, the City wants to hear suggestions for re-purposing York House.

So Fredericton Heritage Trust brings to Fredericton two experts to help us explore realistic ideas.

Natalie Bull is the Executive Director of the Heritage Canada Foundation in Ottawa and will present case studies of municipally-owned re-purposed landmarks across Canada, with a focus on options as well as challenges: “New Life for Old Buildings: Canadian Strategies and Success Stories”. Keith Brideau leads Historica Developments in Saint John and will explain his work on two heritage projects in that city.

Everyone may question the speakers before discussing possible uses for the York House (York St School) landmark. This is a rare chance to create and review workable ideas that the Heritage Trust will compile and send to the City before the January 31 deadline.

Everyone is welcome: MLA’s, City politicians, City staff, heritage advocates, citizens interested in downtown development or in the re-birth of this signature building, designed by prolific Maritime architect, J.C. Dumaresq (1840-1906), who also designed the NB Legislature, St. Paul’s Church, and the Charlotte Street Arts Centre building (among many others across Maritime Canada).

Saturday January 21, 2:00 - 4:30pm, Knights of Columbus Hall, 170 Regent St; Free parking. Free admission. Refreshments.
