This wood clapboard house, with its double gable façade, was built in 1858 by Hiram Dow. Predating the relatively modern term of "duplex," the structure was described in the deed of that date as "two unfinished cottages" and is also known as a semi-detached dwelling. The floor plans of the two halves are mirror images of each other and the front facade with its window symmetry, offset doors, and architectural clarity is very inviting.
