82 Charlotte Street

82 Charlotte Street

Saint John Architect Ken Campbell designed a small number of handsome brick houses in Fredericton, including this one built in 1934, as well as kindred houses at 190 St. John Street and 837 George Street. 82 Charlotte Street’s features include square headed doors and windows set into arched-top brick niches, a split-flued chimney at the right gable end, and a small attached garage toped with an open-sided roofed deck. Surrounded by characteristic Fredericton wooden homes, it exudes a unique sensibility of eclectic, yet reserved craftsmanship that precluded the profusion of post-WWII modern homes that were soon to come.
