188 Odell Avenue
This is believed to be one of thirteen "Scarr Cottages" built in the downtown plat in the 1890’s by William Joseph Scarr, a Fredericton native of Irish descent. Scarr acted as builder and developer, selling these popular modest homes with ease. These virtually identical Cottages were desirable not only because they were affordable, but because they offered the latest modern conveniences such as indoor bathrooms and furnace heating. The #300 blocks of Westmorland and Saunders Streets each have rows of William Scarr Cottages similar to this well-preserved Odell Avenue specimen.
