59/63 York Street
This fine small brick building is typical of mid-19th century commercial storefronts in the downtown, which replaced earlier wooden structures destroyed by fire. This example (est. 1860) features a sturdy limestone sill and window lintels plus a false pediment above the storefront, which breaks the façade. From this vantage point it is worth noting the upper storeys of various buildings along York Street which belie their age with a variety of interesting window treatments, cornices, and building materials.
