There are four audio tours highlighted by the shaded areas in the map below. Each audio tour introduces some of the key buildings of Fredericton’s built heritage interest or links to the vibrant social history of the area.
|Tour A - West End, Fredericton South||Tour C - Devon, Fredericton North|
|Tour B - East End, Fredericton South||Tour D - Marysville, Fredericton North|
The tours may be downloaded in mp3 format or borrowed free from the Fredericton Public Library, 12 Carleton St., by the river or from the Nashwaaksis Public-School Library, 324 Fulton Ave. Each tour has its own detailed route coded to what you will hear on the audio guide. Print off the maps and take them with you, or collect from the Public Library.
At the end of each tour, you will hear information on follow-up materials that are easily available, including books for sale at Westminster Books on King St., and Botinicals Gift Shop and the Beaverbroook Art Gallery, both on Queen St., eastern end from Regent St. A video at the York-Sunbury Museum in Officers' Square gives you a broader historical background about the province's history.
Fredericton Heritage Trust Inc. produced each tour. Anita Jones and Ted Jones, well respected social historians, carried out additional research and developed the basic scripts for each tour. Outreach Productions in Hanwell, NB, managed the audio production. We acknowledge funding support from a 2009 Cultural Capitals of Canada grant from the City of Fredericton. Additional help has been freely given by members of the Trust and other heritage supporters.
Each tour will take approximately one hour, depending on your walking speed and any rests or shopping breaks you take en route. For your safety, please use designated crosswalks. We ask you, please, to stay on the sidewalks and avoid walking on anyone’s private property. The Trust is not liable for personal damage. You will hear the instructions about when to press pause or play as you travel through each tour. Take your time and customise your tour as you see other interesting sites en route. Walking, driving your car, or riding a bus: the tours are designed to fit your needs and interests.
