One of the most successful women in business in Fredericton at the end of the 19th century was Sarah Grace Young, who with her sister Eve established a very successful millinery business around 1883 which employed up to ten milliners (hat makers). Sarah married Peter MacDonald, and together in 1905 they completed this lavish house with its plethora of gabled dormers, fine wood trim and decorated bays, and named it after Peter’s home in Scotland: Glen Isla. Undoubtedly related to Sarah’s business, the house was actually better known to locals as Bonnet Hall.
