Legislative Library

Legislative Library

This structure appears to be an addendum to the grander Legislative Assembly Building, but was constructed at the same time; four iron doors at each entrance separate this unique room from the rest of the Legislature to protect its contents from fire. The main library room has the shape of a small Roman Basilica with a southerly apse-like bay window and butternut bookcases, creating cozy alcoves on each side of the room. The high wooden ceiling with exposed beams supports an upper row of windows. The Library’s vault contains many precious books including unique New Brunswickana and a complete original hand-coloured folio of John James Audubon’s Birds of America.
